“Tangerine Dream” is part of an ongoing printmaking series by Indira Cesarine which began in 2017 titled “GIRLS”. The intaglio etchings are created with variations of line etching, soft ground and aquatint on copper plates. The works celebrate the female form, re-appropriating silhouettes from vintage pinup images and re-positioning them in new environments as an act of female empowerment. “I was inspired by female sexual icons from the ’50s, and I wanted to reclaim her silhouette as a woman who is empowered by her sexuality and embraces it as something natural, earthy and human, while being graceful and timeless. The artwork envokes sex-positive femininity and an innocent sexuality as if the figures are lounging in the Garden of Eden”
“Tangerine Dream” has been featured at Sotheby’s “Take Home A Nude” Benefit Exhibit and Auction, 2018 AQUA Art Show, Miami 2018 and “EDEN” exhibit at SPRING/BREAK Art Show 2019. Each of the prints of the limited edition series are hand-printed by the artist, and include color variations which make each work unique.
