Inspired by Surrealism Indira Cesarine’s “Lumière” photographic series features light paintings of the artist’s muse dancing. The surreal light painting above and around the performer’s nude silhouette becomes a mesmerizing dance of energy between the tangible and the transcendent. Cesarine’s technique of light painting uses light as a brush in order to paint ethereal strokes onto the canvas of darkness, thus capturing a play of luminosity that transcends the boundaries of traditional imagery. Through this technique, she seeks to illuminate and reveal the hidden energies of the universe.
In these images, she created a series of spirals flowing as if from the dancer’s hands, presenting a powerful reference to energy, lifeforce, and divine feminine power. A returning theme in her work, she embraces the symbol of the spiral to represent progression, infinity, the journey of life, and the path to higher consciousness. The spiral is an ancient symbol of evolution and one of the oldest pagan symbols in existence. The spiral vortex, as found in the double helix structure of DNA molecules, is known as nature’s favored form for transmitting energy. She additionally transforms the model into a canvas with body painting of her figure with vines and leaves, creating a visual metaphor of Mother Nature symbolizing life and growth. The interplay of light and movement on the figure creates a spellbinding visual narrative that emphasizes the power of the human spirit and the divine feminine.
The portraits and light paintings were captured in camera with single exposures.
