Art Fair 2019, opening on May 1st in New York City. Superfine! Art Fair brings a new look and location to its 2019 show, leaving the Meatpacking district and re-launching at 107 Grand Street in Soho from May 1-5th. The Untitled Space gallery will be presenting the works of 6 female artists revolving around the theme of “The Female Gaze on Love, Lust, and Longing.” Exhibiting artists include Annika Connor, Cabell Molina, Fahren Feingold, Indira Cesarine, Sarah Maple, and Tina Maria Elena Bak. “Our exhibition, ”The Female Gaze on Love, Lust and Longing,” is a continuation of the gallery’s commitment to emphasize the work of female artists and feminist art as a genre. The Female Gaze has been a reoccurring theme of our exhibitions dating back to one of our first shows, “In The Raw: The Female Gaze on the Nude.” We are looking forward to premiering new works at the fair that engage this meaningful narrative.” – Indira Cesarine, The Untitled Space founder Indira Cesarine premiered her “Goddess” series at Superfine! 2019. The Goddess Series features a unique neon sculpture as well as photographic artwork of renowned dancer Katherine Crockett. The photographic images were shot in studio on medium format and montaged with landscapes and macro flora images, with all photography and compositing by Indira Cesarine. The series is predominately in black and white and printed with archival ink on raw aluminum metal with a dye sublimation process. It presents empowering emotive images of the female form, with the graceful physical strength of the dancer juxtaposed with images representing the power of nature. Mother Earth becomes personified through the beauty of a goddess dancing. Dancer Katherine Crockett is known for her career in modern dance and performance, having been the principal dancer of Martha Graham Dance Company. She toured internationally with the company for twenty-one years. Crockett additionally starred as “The Queen” in the Off-Broadway immersive theater hit, “Queen of the Night,” for which she created and choreographed her role. She has danced alongside Mikhail Baryshnikov and has been featured in numerous films including award-winning “Fall to Rise” directed by Jayce Bartok, and in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” as Cate Blanchett’s dancer double, directed by David Fincher. Other works featured at the fair by Cesarine included a number of her “GIRLS” series intaglio etchings including “Girl in Red” and “Tangerine Dream,” as well as several neon sculptures and India ink on paper paintings from her “Bettie Dances” series and “Shadows” series.
